“We said to the team in many ways it was sad that this probably would be the last time, bearing a disaster, that we would meet as it had been such a pleasure to have them working in the house…”
In 1986 we bought our bungalow and with Colts help re-designed the house. In 1987 the modifications to the house were completed including replacing the five lounge floor to ceiling windows with double glazed units. Three years later all the remaining old window and frames, of which there were 14, were replaced with double glazed units. For the princely sum of £5400.
By 2021 some of the glazed units were fogging and some of the most exposed frames were beginning to be beyond DIY repair.
A call to Colt to ask “can you help?” Two months later Martin and his team appeared, measurements taken, quote delivered and accepted. The date we agreed in 2022 we were later to find was the same as our local stately home was holding their annual Game fair, so finding a bed for the night was a challenge.
The work was completed, including replacing a section of wood that was showing signs of rot quickly and very neatly. The winter of 2022 was a good test of the new windows.
Time was taken to measure up the next three replacements. September 2023 arrived as did a team of three who in the two days completed the work.
We said to the team in many ways it was sad that this probably would be the last time, bearing a disaster, that we would meet as it had been such a pleasure to have them working in the house.
We were able to show them the model of the Colt house that my parents built in the 1960’s which is where both, as a teenager, I learnt how to place cedar shingles and to understand a Colt house.
