New Rudgwick Roof
The men spent two separate weeks working away in Rudgwick, West Sussex to undertake re-shingling both elevations of the roof on this Colt bungalow. They managed to luckily dodge the rain and work long days to get the job done!
One hot and sunny week in June saw Martin and Nick re-shingle part of this shallow expansive roof in Sevenoaks with new cedar wood shingles, in addition to treating the whole roof with Texnap 22 oil.
“Martin, Caroline and the Colt team have always been very professional and we are very happy to recommend them to you…”
We have known Colt for nearly 20 years now and they have always been very supportive of the projects we’ve wanted to complete on our house, whether these be major expansion or just simple window replacement. Their advice has always been provided and our relationship has grown to be very trusting. Their prices have always been very fair too.
When we first viewed a Colt house with the view to buying it, Colt were able to give me advice about the build , longevity and maintenance. Since then, they have completed major expansion works by removing the roof and building an upstairs for us, complete cavity wall insulation, various window replacements to remove the terrible Anglian windows someone had fitted, and most recently a complete renovation of our large lounge, completed to meticulous perfection. We don’t go anywhere else for support.
Martin, Caroline and the Colt team have always been very professional and we are very happy to recommend them to you.

Western Red cedar shingles replaced the old cedar shingles on the gable end of this Colt bungalow in Rochester, finished with one coat of Texnap 22 oil.
The front elevation of this garage was renewed using Western Red cedar shingles. Luckily, the men finished the job just in time before the snow fell!
This garage was originally constructed in 1936 and is the third cedar shingle roof covering since this time!
“We have always used Colt for maintenance on our house because of their experience with the building…”
We have always used Colt for maintenance on our house because of their experience with the building. Recently we needed a window replacement which Colt organised promptly, and kindly fitted us in at short notice when they had a gap in their diary. The work was carried out quickly, and the kitchen cleaned and sanitised meticulously by Colt after completion.

“New Front Door…”
When we decided to replace our front door we had no idea of our options or how many decisions we would have to make.
As this is a Colt house we contacted W H Colt and Son Ltd. Martin Ross carefully and patiently explained our options, recommended a Sternfenster door and following his assessment sent us the relevant information and Sternfenster brochure.
As the colour shown on our computer screen doesn’t always match the actual colour of a product he later brought us some samples to compare next to the existing woodwork. Almost immediately our decision was made.
Throughout the whole process Martin has been available to discuss the project and the work was duly completed with Colt’s usual care and attention to detail and we are very pleased with the results.

Cedar wood shingles and cedar cladding have graced and enriched the beauty of many Colt homes over the last 100 years. With several cedar profile options available; our clients were in search of a more modern look for their home and opted for a mix of horizontal shiplap cedar boarding and vertical o-gee profile within the recessed porch area. Together with new cedar trims around the dormer window and the cleaning of the uPVC gutters, upon applying Texnap 22 nourishing oil to the finished cedar, the front of the house is now set for another 60 years of life!
“We are delighted with Colt as ever, including in terms of the professionalism of the on-site team…”
We are delighted with Colt as ever, including in terms of the professionalism of the on-site team, their versatility, great advice and good humour, and of course the quality of the job. The new windows are stunning; the finish is exceptional and the standard of clean up afterwards frankly remarkable. We will be seeing you again soon!
Mr Jones, Sevenoaks
With only a few short months remaining of 2020 and the thought of winter around the corner, our final trip to Scotland went ahead and the team completed the installation of the outstanding A rated uPVC windows and set of uPVC French doors.
Having completed the trip to Cupar near Perth three times this autumn and all in-between the Scottish lockdowns, we were also lucky enough to have the time to retro-fit some much needed insulation on the southern elevation, complementing this wall with new cedar wood shingles.
Our contract in Cupar this Autumn was to install fifteen white uPVC frames, factory fitted in our unique sub-frame system, along with one set of open-out uPVC French doors. Utilising our lockdown time here in Kent, we were able to have the uPVC windows and sub-frames put together in our workshop, finishing the exterior treated timber section with three coats of Super-dec Sadolin wood stain and white satin wood paint applied to the inside section, rendering the frames complete and ready for a easy direct replacement.
Together, with an insulated much warmer southern elevation and beautifully fixed cedar wood shingles, the bungalow and our client are all set for a warmer cosier winter.
Gable End Bedroom Extension03/10/2026 - 8:39 amHaving worked with this young family on this modest sized bungalow near Ashford in Kent over the past ten years, including installing all the windows and carrying out re-shingling work to several elevations, in the late Autumn of 2025, planning approval was granted, building regs followed and the foundation was completed during Summer 2026. Partial New Shingle Roof30/09/2026 - 7:51 amDecayed shingles and battens were stripped from two elevations of this bungalow roof; new battens were fixed over a Tyvek breather membrane, including continuous verge ventilation and finished with Western Red cedar shingles, including along the ridge.
